Agricultural by-products, especially if grown regeneratively, have already sequestered carbon back into the soil. If they are burned or decompose as waste that carbon is released back into the atmosphere. When used for building however, that carbon remains sequestered. Therefore the carbon footprint of the building falls into the negative range.
